Indoor Horse Driving Trials UK

It's taking off ... feel the thrill!

LINKS    HOME

Typically the event is held in one day and has three phases starting with
"Precision and Paces", followed by "Cones" and finishing with "Marathon Obstacles"

The Classes:
Competitors must be members of the Indoor Horse Driving Trials Club.
Carriagehouse Insurance Championship classes are:

Obstacles

1.  Novice Single Pony 4.  Open Single Horse
2.  Open Single Pony 5.  Multiples Pairs
3.  Novice Single Horse 6.  Multiples Tandems
Classes may be amalgamated when there are only a few entries - for example, tandems and pairs usually compete against each other - except at the Finals.  Some events hold Club classes as well which offer a gentler introduction for newcomers and which are not part of the Championships.  Juniors, those under 18 on 01 October of the relevant competition year, compete in the same classes as adults.
Rosettes are awarded to sixth place in each class.  Competitors are ranked according to the number of penalties they have gained in the three phases of the competition; the lower the number of penalties the better.  Everyone who completes the event gets a point and those in the ribbons get extra points which are added to their ranking in the region.
Entries:
The entry fee is £27.50 for most events (juniors £20) unless otherwise stated in the yearbook.  Send the correct amount, payable to the correct payee!  The closing date for events is ten days before the event.  Send your entry early to be sure of a place.
Venues:
Some event venues have their own rules, so please make sure you know them and stick to them; we want to keep their managers happy!  You may have to put your horse or pony back in your lorry or trailer between phases of the competition instead of leaving him tied up, so please be prepared to do so, or hire a stable.
Enjoy it!
Whether you are watching for the first time or you're a seasoned competitor; IHDT UK runs the events for your enjoyment, so please be aware of your own safety - and other people's - and enjoy the best winter carriage driving there is!

Competitors: do find time to thank the organisers and helpers; it's always appreciated!
