have a look at your house ins.public liability is sometimes included.for £28 i added p/l onto my nfu existing horse ins.the bhs gold gives you p/l on the horse but the carriage element is a grey area.bds does not cover trials.in the event of a claim if you have more than one insurer they will split the cost. | ||

BDS I believe will cover you at an event providing the trial is not timed! So if you want to have a go first without any of the memberships try that one if you want to do competiton at a specific driving type I believe each individual type covers for its own thing. BHS covers basic road work ride n drive not competition driving. | ||

My tuppence-worth: I understand that BDS insurance in this instance only covers training and competitions if it's a BDS event and that it specifically does not cover training for or taking part in horse driving trials events. (I've asked in the past!) Also, we used to have a competitor in hdt who was insured under BHS Gold - again, worth enquiring about. Hope this sheds light... For info - I think you will find that BDS and BHS insurance does not cover driving trials activities. | ||

Congrats on you first born, more time consuming than the horse? To answer your question. No you don't have to join any other club to compete indoors.Just IHDT UK. If you want to compete in the big outdoors then BHDTA membership is good, covers third party insurance. Or as Alan suggests join BHS their insurance cover is really worth the membership fee. My horse, my partner and I have had the summer off due to the birth of our first child (awww)and are now back in training ready for the new season I am currently a member of indoor driving and will of cause be renewing membership but I wondered... Do we need to join; BHDTA BDS A Club We are covered to drive our horse on her insurance and will be covered at the indoor events thanks to IHDT but wondered if we should be members of anything else and if so just me or my partner (who's my groom/backstepper) also and why do we need to/ what are the benefits? Thank you in advance |
