I have been into driving for 5 years, but only started competing in the indoor last season ( when I was 13-though there were plenty of juniors younger than me at the finals) It's a brilliant way to get into more competative driving, but it's still so friendly. I competed with my 36" shetty and it's ideal for them!!! P.S do you know where your nearest event is?

The rules state 'Age qualifications for drivers and grooms as per BHDTA rules for affiliated club events.' For my local club this is the year in which the person reaches the age of 10 years but get in touch with your local club (look on the BHDTA website: www.horsedrivingtrials.co.uk). Most organisers will try to encourage junior drivers whilst not falling foul of Health & Safety regulations - we live in litigeous times, unfortunately.

This is an ideal sport for youngsters who tend to show the adults how it should be done. You only have to look at Philippa Howe, Supreme Champion at age 15!

As for Shetlands, they are perfect - 'Pocket Rockets' - for this sport which seems to suit them down to the ground.

I have a 9 year old very keen driver, who has driven in a few pleasure classes with her 35 inch Shetland.

WE ned to give her more to do. Would this be a suitable sport to get her going. Anyone else have junior whips?...and teeny tiny ponies?
