If you give Ian Collings of Jack in a Box a ring on 01424 756021 he can discuss this with you and can put some in the post to you tomorrow. |

With your round (post) fittings on the swingle tree you will need loop sliding ends (they go back on themselves through a square link and slide tight on to the post)to your traces that sounds what you describe. The only way you can have quick release shackles on this type of trace is at the collar end, that consist of a hook and eye with a pull through tab. Have a look on the Zilco website, you will find a picture there. It may be possible to get an attachment for you pigtail trace ends to convert them to post fittings, have a look through harness makers websites. Good luck

I suggest you get the "snap shackle" type. Why? Because you can release them when they are under tension. This is one with a screw-in post.
Also I recommend you put a leather or webbing tag on the pull-apart ring to make it easier to open it quickly. Don't use a loop because they can (believe it or not!) get caught on twigs and stuff as you go along. I didn't think this would happen either until my pony got his tail caught in the quick release pull and quick released it! We apply insulating tape around the round key-ring type thing so tails etc. can't catch in it, too. Pony & Carriage (www.ponyandcarriage.co.uk) have some good pics on their website and you can get silver or brass-coloured snap shackles - all sizes including wide ended ones to fit on the end of your traces - from them and many other excellent harness accessory providers (as well as from ships chandlers - but the best have a swivel and straight end). Make sure you get the right size for your turnout! p.s. I prefer to attach the snap-shackle to the traces, not to the carriage - then they don't get "borrowed" so easily. |

Hi All I am having a swingletree fitted to my cart this weekend, I am going to be having round fixings on the swingletree. My question is what fixings do i need to buy for my harness as the traces have a leather belt like fixing that currently slides over a pig tail hook. I believe I need to purchase some quick release hooks or something similar. Cam anyone point me in the right direction? Many thanks Sam |
