Crazy idea! The driver is in control of the turnout (hopefully) and can't possibly be if the groom is moving around and unbalancing the vehicle. The thought of a groom with something in his hand which could possibly get caught in the wheels is not worth considering.

Nice to know your thinking of ideas though Martyn

I'm not keen on this idea but I'm not sure why! Maybe it's because it's beginning to get away from the original concept of the competition; that it is the same as driving trials, just indoors. Which actually may or may not be a good thing!

Let’s do away with the dummy on the back step in cones!!
How about bringing in an element where the back stepper has to do something? Taking an idea from gymkhanas:
The team enter the arena pass through the start of the timer dives through a couple of cones then you have to pickup a flag that is in an obstacle up right, dive some more cones then put the flag back in the holder. Completing the course. I think it would be good to keep the optimum time. As this will reduce the opportunity for scurrying.
You could make it harder by having a knock down on the flag holer so that the flag has to be lifted and replaced with care!
