Dianne, come and live in East Anglia! We have a Club class specially for complete beginners (and Danielle Twitchen's baby ponies). No pressure - lots of fun with others like you. You can still be competitive in the high 200 point score set, and you'll get your money's worth if you're slower, anyway. And rosettes! Much nicer than coming 10th in Novice class? Yes, if you haven't already, go and watch an event, bother people and see if you can groom for someone at least in P&P and cones. This is fun and good experience and you'll quickly make friends. Tell us how you get on?

I agree with everything Mark says - we are a friendly lot who do not laugh at novices (I can still be relied on to do daft things and I've been in this sport since the beginning). Just find out where your nearest event is from this website and ring the event secretary who will be pleased to answer any queries you have.

Once you get to your first event just do as much as you want to, you can withdraw from any of it at any time so if you feel you've done enough pull out and watch everyone else. Remember that you will be in the novice class - you may well find that one or more of the others are also on their first event.

Have courage, have a go, and you are bound to have fun.
Enjoy!

Hi, I have a 15.3 mare and a 2 wheeler (unknown origin) that is within the widths i am told, with a backstep. How do i get started?? Are there any classes for total, and i mean total, novices as in won't get laughed out of the ring if the old man has to get off and lead us over a bridge or something and we complete the cones in walk/trot?? Is there anywhere we can have a go before taking the plunge??? Live east yorkshire. Go on, encourage me
