Hi Lindsey - thanks so much for the encouraging info. I live in Devon, near Dartmoor, but we are planning to move in the near future. We are aiming to buy a smaller property as we are now older and therefore a dartmoor with a small companion will be able to live on less land. Also he would fit in an Ifor Williams 510, with a carriage, much more easily than a bigger pony. This said I didn't want to ask too much of him driving wise - hence the question. |

Hi, I drive a 11.2 dartmoor mare....pulls 2 adults and children plus dogs with no problem at all... Good strong mare and I never doubt her ability at all... I compete indoors outdoors showing trials road drives the lot... She is brilliant! What area are you from?? She has also been put to a 180kilo pair carriage this season.... Regular work good feet and condition and you will have a good pony! |

Thanks so much for that. Tell me Anne do you do any competitions with your dartmoor or just drive him for pleasure? Also what would be the combined weight of the adults he pulls? |

I have an 11.2hh chunky dartmoor who pulls a four wheeler with 2 adults no problem, its all about the fitness. |

I am driving my Sec A cross cob approx 13h he is a chunky 4 year old so not as mature in body as yours he is happily pulling my husband and i combined weight 14+9 stone and 2 wheeler admitedly on flat Norfolk land but he seems happy for 45 mins an hour 3 times a week at present. Sure unless you are huge! and assuming your trap is well balanced he will be fine. Your groom could always walk up the very steep hills,may not be popular. Sure you will get a more expert oppinion from a pony driver. It has often amazed me there is no weight guide line, like gymkhana ponies, but when competing the ponies most grooms watch the driver warm up and jump on for the competion. Sure if they are fit very capable of pulling a lot of weight. The difference of carrying a bale of hay or pushing it in a wheel barrow!. |

I am breaking my dartmoor hill pony to harness. He is a chunky full up 12.2 8 year old. Could he pull two adults in a two wheeler and if so how far and what about hills? He needs a job to do as I don't want to sell him but I have never driven a pony this small before. Any feedback would be most welcome. |
