I'm holding my breath - some supersonic Shetland! Harriet, I've got your entry for Wix - thanks: you'll find the dressage test on this website, as shown:
www.indoordriving.co.uk/test.htm
Use the one shown on the page - don't click any other! It's Test 3 REVISED 2005 (not just Test 3). We use the same test all season. You need a decent dressage score - with a c-a-l-m pony(!) - to be in with a chance of winning your class!
I'll publish the start times on the Announcements Forum over the weekend, so please keep an eye out for them. Sadly, I'm not bringing my pony after all - sorry!
Fiona

thanks guys
I am entering with him on the next one in wix and we are gonna hold our breaths. I have been feeding him oats and linging hi heavily and he is improving, i know he is not gonna be a whizz !but the good news is that we got him to canter with the cart at the week end. I think this first show will be his last show though, but we are gonna get another pony to ake over.
Thanks

News for Shetland would-be pairs drivers in East Anglia - thanks to Ann Bishop and Tod Alexander (see photos of them on www.mikewatts.com), we have a Club Multiples class, so, altho' you compete with the other multiples, you score points in your own league... If you are whiz enough to qualify for the Finals, you can, of course, enter the "normal" multiples.

Suggestion for Harriet - why not come along to Wix and ask us loads of questions to find out what it's like and what appeals to you before committing yourself/your dad? If you want to (and if I'm competing) you can come round on the backstep of my single pony (12.3 hands) for dressage and cones - you just have to stand there and not say anything, but it's all good experience (just let me know if you want to!)

Also, did you know that, for indoor trials, you can compete with a single and then put him/her in with a pair or tandem to compete again? So you and your dad could both take part!

Hi Harriet
I agree with crazyshets you need to start with a single and gain experience first before trying out anything else driving a pair is very different as both ponies do not neccessarily go the same even if they look in perfect harmony to the less experienced eye and this takes practice as I have found out myself.I drive a 9.3 shetland in novice pony she has a 4 wheeled lightweight marathon vehicle and two adults on board and for her size goes really well and our times on the obstacles are not far of the other sharper welshies etc.Ponies what ever breed or type either have a natural eagerness for the work or not you can improve on fitness and stamina with work but if they don't enjoy what they are doing I am afraid you will be limited to what you can do.But its better to be slow and safe than have a pony thats too hot for you to handle until you feel ready Don't be to down hearted as yet many a pony perks up when in company of others doing the same thing and he might just surprise you

Hi
Go for a single pony, for one reason. When you drive pairs, you have to go into the open class in everything. I made that mistake.

Hi Harriet - I think you have a problem there, sounds like Ajay doesn't really want to drive. If you want to email me (judithbroom@hotmail.com)I could give you details of a superb 11.3hh shetland x welsh looking for a good var/www. A very experienced pony who has competed successfully at Club level in single and pair (so might keep your Dad happy)

I am doing my first trial on 28.1.06 with the old family shetland whos just on 9.3 HH The only problem is he is increadably slow. He has a two wheel exercise cart and it normally me and my sister in the cart, and as we are both under 15 our combined weight is under 16 stone. HOwever he just kepps on randomly stopping. Its not that he is unfit as i ride him daily, of maily galloping work ( Yes i know a 14 year of on a shetland!) which he loves. He does also seem to love driving and always has his ears up , but we are struggling to make a circuit of the menage in trot at the moment which may be a bit embarrasing when it comes to dressarge. He is also not affected by the whip whatsoever. My dad has agreed to buy me somthing new, either a new cart,or a new pony aswell, but i didnt know if you guys had any go faster tips before Ajay gives up his driving career. Also, would you advise a pair of smaller ponies ( 12.2and down ),a pair of larger ponies,a single large pony or a more enthusiastic small pony for indoor trials. This is as my dad wants a pair but i dont see the point.
