Yes, it is the same as the outdoor rule, The corresponding indoor rule 9.7 says: "...If a competitor drives a gate out of sequence or in the wrong direction they incur 20 points for an Error of Course. No gates then count until they drive the correct next gate. ..." Once you've made an error of course it doesn't matter which other gates you drive, if any, until you get back on course. We'll still count knockdowns though if any are knocked down. | ||

Right, have tried to post twice on this so third time lucky. Am assuming your term in line 6 ..'This action makes all gates free etc etc' means exactly the same as rule 946.2.4 'all gates are neutralised until he reaches this gate'. Therefore, if I drive ABD, does this mean to correct my course, I can go through E and/or F either way and/or C backwards should I choose, without incurring additional penalities to the original 20 for error in course? Am asking because a) I'm very novice and b) have been told by a judge otherwise - i.e. an additional 20 penalties each time I go through an unopened gate whilst correcting my course. Someone asked me recently how the penalties are worked out for errors of course in obstacles. I hope I can cast some light... A gate is opened or "free" when it has been driven in the correct sequence - so your route is planned to go from the start through A, B, C, etc. in order and you can re-use an opened gate any number of times, forwards and backwards. Drive through the finish at the end. The complete turnout must pass between the flags denoting the gate... But what happens when you've driven a gate out of sequence (or backwards first time through)? This action makes all gates "free" until you drive the next gate correctly in the sequence. EXAMPLE: In an obstacle labelled A to E, driving gates in the following sequence is OK... (letters in brackets are "free" gates driven) 1) AB (A) CD (AD) E This is a corrected error of course... 2) A C (DEC) BCD (AD) E C is driven out of order = 20 pens: all gates are free until the driver reaches B. Below, AB are OK, then D is out of sequence. All gates are free until C is driven correctly. Then E is driven out of sequence, then (hooray) D is reached and E is completed - 20 penalties for the first corrected error (ABD) and another 20 for the second C(B)E 3) AB D(AE) C(B) E (AB) D (C) E 4) AC (D) B (A DE) = elimination (C is driven out of order and then not in the correct sequence, before D) (These obstacles may seem oddly designed!) Note that knockdowns, groom down and other penalties still apply at all times in the obstacles.
