Thanks, Fiona and Mike. Great advice! I bought a cheap set of soft plastic, very shallow and easily squashed marker cones used as boundary markers in sports fields. They are light, easy to transport and very cheap compared to the price of cones. I will use them with your designs and suggestions next time I have access to a school and let you know how we get on.

There are also a couple of cones course diagrams we've used - to scale - in the obstacle collection at

https://www.indoordriving.co.uk/ref/obstacle_collection.pdf

(near the end after lots of obstacle diagrams!)

I have rarely seen indoor cones courses published, Veronique... here is one of mine for our arena at Wix, which is 21m x 55m. I walk round and "tweak" the angles of the cones to make the course more interesting.
You may find Annex 5 of the BC Rules 2014, pages 62-67 helpful. There are a number of approved "multiples" and I usually use the serpentine across the diagonal, if at all. The cones are usually set about 11-15m apart to allow for the variations of experience and size of turnout.
If I may offer some practice tips: drive a figure of eight on a 20-25m diameter; drive in and out of single cones (zigzag) set at 15m down to 8-10m; try the practice layout attached. Keep changing what you do and practice little and often. Practice what you are worst at until you are good at it!
Small cones from Screwfix are cheap and weatherproof.
Please post how you get on? Thank you. Fiona

Does anybody have course patterns for the cones? We really need to practice as well and it would be nice to have some patterns with distances between the pairs of cones to get started now that we know what the width is likely to be.

It isn't in the Rules Vicky, but then again, neither are a few other important bits and bobs!!!! We use 145cm at North West comps.

I can't find it in the rules - which is why I asked on here?

Vicky I'm not good with links etc but if you google indoor carriage driving rules I'm sure something will come up - all the rules can be downloaded from the web btw. Good luck.

Thanks Carole - I really need to do some practice and I want to be sure I am making it difficult enough :-) ... is it stated in some rule anywhere?

Does anyone know what width the cones are set at for IHDT ... especially given that the vehicle track width is 125cm?

Thanks :-)
