Thank you for all of your replies!

Because of only having one ferry operator (which limits us to sailings and fares just a tad), it is possible that Podge may have to return to Jersey before the end of January now (Oh! the joys of a monopoly), which is a real shame as I'd started to learn the p&p test and really was looking forward to driving it!

What will be will be and who knows.... miracles may happen!

Tara,

In indoor (and outdoor driving) in the UK the width is measured at ground level on the rear wheels.

In indoor driving, to set the cones we allow a clearance assuming everyone's vehicle is 125cm (=the minimum width for indoors and the same as the outdoor marathon width for all classes so widely available). You might be able to persuade your local organiser to widen the cones especially for you, though you can imagine if we had a different width for each competitor it would be unmanageable.

We try to have a level playing field by getting everyone to drive at marathon width, 125cm, though locally we'd try to help out if someone can't get a vehicle of that width.

Hope it works out for you.

Brilliant!! Thank you for the reply!

Another question to ask please! Now I know that the minimum vehicle width is 125cm and I've measure my vehicle and it is 140cm wide.

In Jersey, to make everyone drive on a level playing field we have to attach 'bars' onto the back of our vehicles which are six foot wide and are ten inches from the ground (for the cones section only).

How does the width of the vehicles and the cones etc work in the UK for Indoor trials?

Many thanks

Hi Everyone
Please note: the backstepper DOES NOT need to be a member.

£20 is not a big membership fee, wait for next season when ALL CLUBS has to pay the PROPOSED increased membership levy to the BHDTA, then you are likely to see ALL Club membership fees going skyward!! BHDTA membership levy explained for those who do not know about it: All Clubs pay the BHDTA a levy for each and every member belonging to each and every Club, at the moment this levy stands at £7 per member, this means your membership to the IHDT is in fact £14. This amount pays for everything that it takes to run the winter season. Entry fees just about cover school hire, judges expenses, transport, and catering for the team running the event. Funds are tight, all regions are looking for sponsors for rosettes which is a around £300 per region, all suggestions or sponsors please email us.

Heavy Horses are welcome at ALL Indoor events. ALL DETAILS Of events and tests are on this site.

Thanks Fiona

I know that £20 doesn't sound much, but when you make that £40 to include your backstepper and then the entry fee on top... it does add up!

I'll give Barbara Nadin a ring over the weekend and see what she says!

Many thanks once again,

Tara

Tara, I can offer answers to 2 and 3... My understanding from Dick Carey is that you can do your first ever indoor event without becoming a member of IHDT UK but that you must become a member for subsequent events. It's "only" £20 to join as an individual. The P & P test is number 11 and is available on the website, see the Phases menu, Paces & Precision. I suggest you have a chat with the organiser of the Hand event to check if they'll have you! (We have a Percheron competing in Norfolk.) Best of luck!

Hello All!!

I have horse who is going to North Devon (from Jersey, Channel Isles) to be trained to drive over the winter and I have noticed that the West Country have an event at the Hand EC on the 28th January '07 (about the time I am going to collect him.

Could you please help me, by answering some (if not all) of my questions?

1. Would it be possible for me to attend the event with Podge (i.e. are heavy horses welcome)?

2. Would I need to join the IHDT club to attend just one event (I am a fully paid up member of the BDS and Jersey Horse Driving Society)?

3. What p&p test will be used (if known)

That's about the most relevent questions for now, but I'll probably come up with a few more later!

Many thanks in advance

Tara
