Small ponies known in the trade as "POCKET ROCKETS" I remember seeing a shetty competing at an IHDT event at wix a season or so ago i think the ponies name was Football,he performed a lovely p+p test which included a superb extended trot, so all you guys + girls with POCKET ROCKETS go and have yourselfs some fun ! |

Do you have any restrictions on small ponies competing? I am a HDT club competitor who has been discouraged from competing nationally by the lack of small pony classes. We are used to competing against anything at club level..the problem arises when I want to go national at an event with no small pony class - we were not allowed to enter....(this was a few years ago so things may have changed a little in the HDT world). What I want to ensure is that I won't run into the same problem in indoor driving? We are quite happy to try our luck against ponies/horses so long as we are allowed! |

Small ponies rule! We have a great great time embarressing larger turnouts indoors with our 10hh chaps, give it a go its fast and fun and there are no disadvantages to being a bit challenged in the height department. |

Hi all small pony drivers
You are very welcome to drive indoors with your little ones, they are great fun to watch and drive, fast and furious. There is not any limitations in height, providing the vehicle is of the correct width and is suitable for the animal that is harnessed to it.
Please make sure you are not asking too much of them though.
We try very hard to make sure the surface of all indoor arena's are suitable, but some are inclined to get deep in places which the larger pony can cope with, but a little one may struggle with the deeper surface. So choose a route according to the surface. Better to be just a little slower than a hurt pony.
Have fun, enjoy the sport of indoor driving.

can any one please tell me the correct width for the vehicle for my 32 inch shetland pony as i am new to this but wont be competing until 2004 as pony not old enough as yet and what type of carriage to get for indoor showing |

Look at the menu at the top of this page click on "About the Sport" then "Club Details" and then "Rules". Currently the width for a pony vehicle is 120cm but this could change to the outdoor width of 125cm in the future. Make certain the vehicle is as light as possible and has a backstep for the groom. |

Thanks folks, sorry I was so long getting back to you! My little guys are 39" (9.2hh) and hardened HDT competitors so I don't think we will have a problem with the surfaces as I get them very fit to compete,however it is certainly an issue I will consider as they are rather lacking in the leg department! Certainly good at fast and furious though.... |
