Use of the whip is a topic we're all looking at carefully.

This forum is not the right place to deal with individual's behaviour.

If anyone does have specific concerns like this, please speak to the organisers or stewards at events at the time, or if you can't do that, then afterwards to ihdtc office (Rita/Dick).

At the finals, I saw at least one competitor warned on use of the whip and there were several people present who work as officials at outdoor national events and an international TD paying close attention. ...everyone's views are important.

It's a difficult issue and it could be useful to talk about the principles here.

PS please always put your name to your posts.

If you do think any young / senior drivers used the whip harshly put a list of names up.That is the only way they can know your opinion, thats what this forum is for !

Ollie and I would like to thank all those involved in rescueing Prince and us after our tip at Keysoe. The arena party were superb(not that I can remember anything having been concussed but everyone says you were!)and no long lasting damage was done except to my pride (I believe I rabbitted on a bit) and my already depleted brain cells. I lost my balance at a jink and consequently missed my handhold for the turn. Prince and Ollie are getting faster and I am getting slower! Ollie is now looking for a speedier backstepper. Prince has been back in harness without any problems - he's a star.
We were having a wonderful w/e until the accident and appologise for delaying the competition. We look forward to hopefully returning to Keysoe and once again thankyou to all involved in organising the event and for helping us after the tip.

I just read the comment about senior/young juniors using too much whip, I was one of the senior juniors competing at Keysoe and I used my whip as I was taught to use my whip. I agree with the comment that was put after though, your whip is your legs, it is one of your AIDS!!! The pony I took to Keysoe is only young and so I need to use my whip to school him around the obstacles, if I did not use my whip to touch him up (which is gentle flicking or laying the whip on there side as opose to beating) he would throw in his shoulder and possibly could result in hitting or getting caught on an obstacle.

Thank you, thank you, thank you - to all the organisers for a great weekend - and also all the people that organise the winter competitions - without all your hard work we would not have the finals!

It's also great to see the photos - thanks Mike!

I have not stopped smiling since Sunday...

I have to disagree with the previous guest about the us of the whip. There was only one competitor that we saw on Sunday that could have been using the whip unnecessarily, but they were not being cruel. I use my whip against the withers on turns as a rider uses their legs, this is how I was taught. It is all about control not abuse.
Still I am fairy new to this sport so I am open to advise from experts.

i went up to keysoe on sunday to watch and was amazed to see how much young / senior drivers used their whips in a hazard and arnt picked up on this, if they we're competing outdoors then they would be slated on that! i think the indoor need to give them a warning for constant / in-appropiate use of the whip.

Regretfully I can not post Finals results as quickly as qualifiers as site not geared up to do so, but will try to get results on site as soon as possible.

Thanks to everyone that came to College EC, especially those who helped clear the dreaded dumpings in the arenas, Phil & Barbara Nadin - Helen Bridges - Jean Alway - Amanda Saville, just to mention a few that I saw, and to Barry Marshall for helping to remove the litter in the gallery.

Thank you all, cu next winter or at some of the summer events.

Do not forget the Indoor Team also organise Brighton & Normanhurst HDT's. Both have Club Classes.
Rita.

Dick Carey and Rita Bundock and all the amazingly good-hunoured and hard-working stewards, helpers, judges, scorers, timers, commentators all did a sterling job this weekend. I know the Finals are planned weeks in advance and lots of work goes on behind the scenes - as well as the winter's events organised and run around the country. Competition was tough and doesn't get any easier - I think this says a lot for the ever-improving standard of driving. I am delighted with "my area's" drivers' results and very glad to be part of such an exciting sport. Thank you to everyone who played a part in making the weekend such an interesting, challenging and thrilling event!
