HI Guest - we must have been looking at the same time - how spooky! We could put them together as a Pair and be Team Tublet!
Thanks for the encouragement and the optimism Rita I would fall over with shock if I got to the finals! Havent done much with Bert for a few seasons for various reasons and now have itchy fingers again, so am trying to catch up with current bits and bobs.

As the IHDT rules do not specify a height you have to revert to the BHDTA rules;
Page 29 article 911.2.1 "Animals not exceeding 148cm without shoes or 149cm with shoes are classified as ponies. All other animals are classified Horses".
I would however recommend for the removal of doubt you get your ponies measured by a vet and have a height certificate. I speak from experiance from having a pony who measures 147cm without shoes.

We run Indoors according to BHDTA rules unless otherwise stated within our own rules, confused? Our rules are being looked at right now to try to make fewer and easier to understand rules! hopefully.

A pony must not exceed 148cm without shoes or 148 with shoes.

I seem to remember the rule for tandem height stated that there should not be more than a two inch difference in size of animals, anyone got time to trawl through BHDTA rules to confirm?
As for one animal being horse and one a pony, the bigger size determines the class.

It does not matter how your horse/pony is put together, be it a twig or a trunk, the main thing about indoor driving is that you and your horse/pony enjoy the fun of indoor events.

Indoor driving was born for fun for all with as few rules as possible. To encourage drivers of all abilities and ages to have fun during the winter, lets not loose that concept.

Have fun and enjoy the cold, wet, windy days of our winter sport, and please spare a thought for the stewards on the door, who is often wet, cold, thirsty, hungry and standing cross legged while everyone is in the cafe keeping warm waiting for the next part of the competition.

Enjoy Indoors this winter and we will see you at the Finals end of March at Keysoe.
Rita

Hi me again, I also have another question, along a similar vein. If you have a tandem, where one animal is classed for competing at IHDT as a pony, and one is classed as a horse, can somebody who is in the know tell me , what happens then, which class to enter??!

Thanks so much for asking that. I was going to ask EXACTLY the same question. I too have a 14.1hh Shire X cobby pony mare, and I was wondering the same thing as you!! I was literally just looking at previous topics posted long ago, and noticed that this came up as a possible rule change, in Oct '05, and it was unclear what the eventual outcome was. Whatever the outcome of this question, perhaps we should get together, and compete them as a pair!!!!!

What does IHDT use as top height for pony classes.
I have a 14.1 shire cross who is clearly a pony stood next to horses but can look huge due to his bulk next to ponies (there`s more shire than what ever else is in there!). He has been in non driving pony classes but also we have also been asked to move classes so that we are not in with weenies.
