May I suggest to local organisers that they use this forum to post news of their events' status - so everyone can look in one place for the latest news and it's accessible to non-Facebook users?
Thank you.

Please see the Animal Health Trust site for the latest news and advice, www.aht.org.uk

AHT source - "Flu is a very contagious virus and is transmitted by respiratory droplets, through direct horse-to-horse contact and coughing.

One of the really notable features of flu is the very quick spread of signs in a group of horses.

The virus can spread large distances in the air and this is one of the reasons why it is very important to control outbreaks as early as possible.

Health care equipment and personnel (hands, clothing, etc.) can also indirectly transmit the virus.

Signs of flu can include:
Lethargy/poor performance
Loss of appetite
Coughing (dry / harsh / hacking)
Fever(>38.5°)
Nasal discharge"

I strongly agree with Fiona, we must not run events if equine flu is in your area.
This is why we INSIST that all competitor have their horses/ponies vaccinated, which is much cheaper than the vets bills and possible death of your beloved horse.

Please note - I shall put an announcement here should the decision be taken to cancel the East Anglia event owing to equine ‘flu.

Although everyone’s horses and ponies must have up-to-date vaccinations, it would not be advisable to hold an event if there were a risk.

We are monitoring the situation closely.

Meanwhile, please stay vigilant and follow the veterinary advice.

Don’t bring your horse or pony out if there’s any reason to think it might have ‘flu or if any horse on your yard shows symptoms.
Thank you.
