Just in case you are all wondering how we will come to a conclusion as to who the lucky winners will be I have contacted all the area organisers & asked for a list of all their small pony drivers competing this season so if you want to have a chance to be " in it to win it " make sure you put the height of your ponies on the entry form for each event in the box provided Good Luck to you all Janet

Hi,
I am new to driving and just wanted to say that I think it is a great idea to recognise the smaller ponies. I have two Shetlands, one is a cross and stands at 11.2 and the other is 10hh. I had noticed in jumping classes that the smaller ponies have to work twice as hard as the bigger ponies and I think they should be recognised too. Good luck and I hope you get lots of support. I think it is a great idea.
Louise.

Yes, I see. No criticism was intended, I was just curious. I hope small pony drivers are encouraged by the rosettes. It would be good to have their own classes but there are never enough at any one venue.

Hi Angela I see what you are saying but this is just an experiment this year I compete a lot against full up to 42 inch shetlands both in driving & Inhand & that extra inch can make a big difference to a ponies build & stamina & therefore ability to compete in driving trials If you have been to the indoor championships you will see that quite a few bigger shetland/shetland type ponies make it to the finals ( especaily multiplies )but only one or two turnouts under 10 hands if they are lucky make it Also if I am right there was a lot of discussion on this forum a while back about classes for under 10.2hh ponies So we are trying to please everybody here but no doubt will disappoint some With this height cut off point we are trying to encourage drivers of smaller ponies 8.2hh - 10.00hh to come forward & join in We are just dipping our toe in the water so to speak this year If we have a poor response & decide to do this offer again then we may revue the heigh limit I would like to add that I am responsible for these rules not the IHDT ( but with the ok nod from mission control ) So any coments should be derected at me not them !!!Janet Sycamore

I am not competing at present, and it doesn't affect me, but I was wondering why 41" was chosen as the height limit. I believe (but may be wrong!) that registered shetlands can be up to 42". Shetlands are surely 'small ponies'so this seems a more logical cut off point to me.

I have been asked to clarify the rules for the above award it is open to ponies that are 41 inches & under including shoes If you compete HC you do not collect points in the championship league table & therefore no points towards this award I am sorry if this excludes you but these are the indoor club rules for competeing HC Janet Sycamore
