Hi Jo

We start at 9am with dressage through till 11.25 so not much to do here, building cones/obstacles is when we require help and is more fun to watch so anytime really after 11.30.

Hi Everyone
It can be very hard work being organiser of any equine event, as I well know, but the reward is satisfying, but that does not mean that organisers do not need help. ALL HELP IS GREATLY APPRICIATED by all organisers, so if you are not doing anything and there is an event in your area then please go along, you will be greeted with open arms, AND it can be as almost as much fun as competing (well nearly!!)
Thanks to everyone who has and will help at our events.
Rita

Hi Jo, the qualification is not determined by how many events you enter in any one region, your finishing place in each of the competitions earns you points and only the highest placed points winners get to go to the finals. The rules on this are in the year book sent out to you with your Indoor Membership or you can look on their website under event rules/qualification.

Ok, does this mean i wouldn't be able to qualify for the finals now as i haven't competed in 5 events (last month we just went to see what it was like)?

Hi Jo, All the Wessex region event count towards the points league, the March event will be either a practice for those going to the championships (as they will need to practice the new Championship dressage which is given out only a couple of weeks before the actual event) or it will be a full event with the points being carried forward to the next indoor season. I hope you enjoy your first indoor at the alternative venue, when you come to Cholderton you will see the problems that we are up against and why we have to limit the numbers, believe me if we could fit more in at Cholderton we would, the more money we take the better the club thrives and the more we can give back to the members!

thankyou, I do understand, it just confused me that we were told that the actual clases werent full, but still we couldnt compete...
but were going to do another one the following weekend.

I didn't mean to sound rude.

Am i right in thinking that the wessex events, don't folow the points league, it's just the march event that is the qualifier?
Thankyou.

The Cholderton Equestrian Centre is the new var/www of the Tidworth Gaurds Polo Club, we are very lucky to be able to usse this venue for Indoor events as it is a large indoor school and has a fully walled outdoor sand school for warm up, but it has very limited unlit parking and has all the polo ponies stabled on site so no liveries and no possibility of 'rented stabling' for the day iether. We are doing our very best to give the Wessex area a venue with 5 competitions through the winter, although we are having to limit it to 20 entries per competition, even so this is a vast improvement on last year as we got off to a good start at Hoplands and were then sadly let down again when the dressage riders complained about driving at the establishment. Sparsholt College accommodated us for several years before deciding not to have us back in 2006 and as yet there is not enough parking at the other school we use for training, Castle Farm, Over Wallop - we are doing our best!

Hi Joanna, I feel I have to reply to your message as the organiser of this event. I have to make a decision on how many entries I can take at this new and much needed venue, it is not just a matter of the parking although this does contribute largely to the limitations, the WHHC struggled last year to find a suitable venue despite having 3 in the local area which would not take driving competitions. The car park is limited and as everyone arrives with rather huge lorries and an enterage of spectators in further cars we struggled in October to keep them off the manacured lawns which is totally unacceptable to both the Club and the owners! It also is a new venue to competitions which means that despite a great deal of money being ploughed into it there are, as yet, no outside lights which means we have a health and safety implication after about 4.45pm at present when it gets too dark to see what we are doing in the busy parking area. I get up at the crack of dawn to do my horses (which then get left at var/www and don't get the chance to compete as I am always organising!) before hitching up the Club trailer getting to the event at least an hour before the first competitor to put out the road signs, set up the arena the scoring system, the catering, liasing with my wonderful group of other volunteers, stewards, judges and when everyone has gone var/www I am still collecting the piles of dung and hay in the carpark, re-packing the trailer and towing everything back var/www, my day for one inside event never finishes before about 7pm - a very good second reason for limiting the numbers..! We did state back before the events started that you would need to get your entries in early and I am very sorry that you feel 'miffed' at missing out and hope that you will get chance to compete elsewhere as well as with us and know that you have been told by the event secretary that if you miss out on the next event your entry will get priority at the December event. Perhaps you might like to come along on Sunday and lend a hand and then you won't feel totally left out even though you do not have the opportunity to drive this time.

Jo, sorry to hear your local event was full - I mean it's great that it's so popular but sorry if that means some people can't get in....

Yes it's fine to compete in another area. Some people, including us, compete in more than one. (The points league and qualifications systems work per area - to be fair to everyone.)

In East Anglia when our numbers rose we were lucky that there could be formed an extra new area/venue for events - at Swafham in Norfolk run by Janice Parker. That's one way round this problem where practical.

Sorry for your disappointment - keep at it...

I am faced with a problem, and am wondering if there would be any plausable solution to this,
We have been told, that due to parking we can not compete at our event next week, but are first on the waiting list. I understand this, though my mum clarified that it weas only the parking and the classes weren't full, so we asked if, we could be dropped off, and my 36inch shetland and two wheeled trap would be able to either hire a stable for the day or stay with me out of the way.
But they came back saying that we couldnt because after, everybody would be doing this. I also understand they want to stick to their rules, so theres no grey areas, but surely, given the classes aren't full, and the people there aren't going to mind, this wouldnt create a problem? if she were there on livery this wouldnt cause a problem?
My other solution is, what if i were to compete HC? That way we couldn't collect any points, so therefore, no one should be annoyed, but we get to compete.
Otherwise, do you have to stick to your specific area, or would i be able to compete at another event this month?
Sorry, but it seemed to me a plausible solution, especially since the sport is supposed to be encourageing new drivers and juniors to compete.
Thankyou, Jo (that wasn't meant to sound spiteful)
