p.s. the pony you drive does not affect which class you can enter: it's the driver's eligibility that counts. You might have to put up with people being sniffy if you use your "better" pony in club class purely to win, however. |

My tuppence-worth: I don't have a problem with anyone competing in club class at the indoor trials we run at Wix. National champions have competed in club class in East Anglia, although they are bringing out inexperienced ponies and not there to win (so far!).
I think I was one of the first to introduce a club class and "the rules", such as they are, seem to have evolved as,
"anyone can enter club class"
"the groom can speak to the driver during P&P and cones, including reading the test, without penalty"
"club competitors cannot qualify to go to the Indoor Finals"
(We will accept under-width carriages for a few goes, too.)
The reason I started the club class was to try to encourage newcomers and to ensure everyone went var/www with a rosette as novice pony class is quite competitive and would have 8 - 10 or so entries and we only had rosettes to 6th. (OMG, the pot-hunter side of me coming out again!)
We're now in our 8th season and no-one's gone back into club class other than to bring on a young and/or inexperienced horse or pony. If a very experienced open class driver wanted to enter club class, perhaps rusty or lacking in confidence themselves, or driving a new turnout - even a multiple - that's OK. But if they were to enter to win every time, I wouldn't think that's in the right spirit!
For me, when a club class competitor wants to move into novice class (or junior), it's completely their choice - and if they want to move back to club, ditto.
When you get into the championship qualifier classes, junior, novice and open, you can't go back to novice from open, but I don't see why you shouldn't enter junior, even if you are an open driver. However, if you want to qualify as a novice or open driver and go to the finals in those classes, you must enter them and qualify by winning the points league.

i was wandering if you have say been in a junior class could you move back to club class but with a diffrent pony ?? or how that works ?i personally thought it was on the driver once say your in novice you cant move back ?
