Several people have mentioned this subject to me in recent weeks. Personally, I think a spark of contention livens things up a bit and certainly gets more people interested and talking about the forum, however I, too, deplore rude rants, unkind personal remarks, unconstructive complaining and anonymous sniping. (Actually, good rants usually make me laugh at the ranter...)

I think the Guest facility is worth defending because so many people forget their passwords and want to post "right now". If the Guest logon were switched off, then IMHO we'd be the poorer for it.

Yes, I think guests should always sign an identifiable name and surname or initial, just out of politeness...

(Just occasionally I post things for other people under Guest, such as notices and stuff, but that's because my name crops up a lot anyway. Don't know if that's a good enough reason?)

I wish more people would post: I don't know nuffink much, just try to be "helpful" (ha! that's what it is?)

Firstly I would like to say thank you to mike for running various driving forums. The majority of people use the forums ethically and friendly to chat about carriage driving, air concerns and open discussion.

The sad part is a minority of people who have a hidden agenda. They post on websites to try and taint peoples reputations or try and gain advantage of some kind or just be rude. As I said this is sad and is a minority of people.

The question I would like to put forward for discussion is "What can we do to stop this or minimise it?"

The People taking advantage of this great resource abuse the guest fascility. They either use a false name or put no name at all. The guest fascility is there for people who are first time users or guests. New users can use it but they are supposed to email Mike to register. All users of this fascility are supposed to sign the post with their real name.

Can the forum work without a guest fascility. Mike is very afficient at issuing login details. If someone has an urgent message could that be emailed to mike with a request for log in details.

Also if a post is annon or the person has not requested login details, should it be removed
