Thanks Julie and Fiona, I have bought the ones in Fionas first picture. Much appreciated, Nicolette.

My preference is for stainless steel quick-release jaw-swivel snap shackles with what I understand is called a clevis pin (first pic). I like to leave these on the carriage (where they may get "borrowed") because they are a bit heavy when left on the trace end and can clunk the pony if one isn't careful! You can get smallish ones from ebay, pony and carriage, Hartland, from about £5 each, or go to your local yacht chandler.

I recommend avoiding the simple spring shackle or carabina (second pic) as these can come open under unusual circumstances and also they cannot be undone under stress, as the other type can.

carabina

Just my ideas - sure there are lots more out there! Hope this helps...

The best and safest way to attach your traces would be with 'quick release' clips. These can be bought through outlets such as Jack In The Box, Hartlands, Equifor, Ride and Drive. There are different sizes available but they would advise you. There is an alternative too. Pop to your local chandlery (if you have one) and they also sell them BUT buy the best you can afford and check the 'breaking strain'.

HI, my daughter has her first 4 wheeler, picked up yesterday but the fixings on the swingle tree are different to our 2 wheeler? OUr traces have metal rings on the end and the new swingle has oval metal loops. How should I best fix the two together please? regards Nicolette
