With regard to type and weight of vehicles used for Indoor events. The Rules are as follows: 5..Vehicles. 5.1 The competitor will use the same vehicle for all three phases. 5.2 Vehicles will be of a marathon or three-phase type. Pneumatic tyres are permitted but scurry vehicles are NOT permitted. Vehicles may have two or four wheels. 5.3 Grooms are recommended to stand on the back step in the obstacles and must do so on four wheel vehicles. 5.4 Minimum weights do not apply but all vehicles must be of a construction suitable for the competition. 5.5 The minimum width for all phases of the competition is 125cm. This is measured at ground level on the widest part of the rear wheels. Width extension by ‘wheel hoops’ or ‘scurry bars’ is not allowed. 5.6 There is no maximum width requirement, but note that cones widths will not be increased for any over-width vehicles. 5.7 Vehicles may be measured at any stage during the competition. To introduce a minimum weight would require vehicles to be weighed, which would mean more equipment to be taken to events, if it be the proper kit or four bathroom scales. BUT anything is possible!! On a lighter note: I am all for Alan's ideas as all apply to me........ Have a great Summer season, we look forward to seeing everyone in October. Rita

I am one of those who use a 'converted' scurry cart. It was actually designed by Belcrown to do both disciplines as I couldn't afford 2 carriages and enjoy doing the indoors for fun and schooling over the winter. Does it really matter, what people are driving in as long as its clean and safe? Jem |

Vehicles are just one small thing in many variables. I think all thin drivers and backsteppers should be banned or should be made to wear lead weights to bring them up to a minimum of fourteen stones. Also spectacle users should recieve a 10% reduction in their scores on wet days and when you get to 60 two or three mistakes should be allowed, unpenalised, in the P&P test. |

Having looked at the many photos that have been posted on the web of the Championships. I've noticed there is a vast difference in the apparent weight of carriages. ie Outdoor pairs vehicles, pairs vehicles converted from single pony carriages and converted scurry vehicles As we have a minimum axle width is it time to bring in minimum weights? By all means allow novices/juniors to use what ever vehicle they have to help them develop but everyone else should have simular weight of vehicles. To level the competition. |
