Thanks to everyone for the replies. I am quite relieved that I Haven't got to change bit. We will keep going as we are and if we come across any problems I may well try getting a diddy french link butterfly.
Thanks again.

Just echoing the last two posts really, I drive my horse in a French Link snaffle both indoors and outdoor trialling and on the roads. No problems whatsoever. He's got a good mouth and is responsive and obedient. Braking is not a problem. So far nobody at Presentation has commented about it. He drives and rides in the same bit.Hope this helps! Good luck with the driving- have fun!!!

I have a 5 inch french link butterfly driving bit if you are interested? We had it made, quite cheaply at a saddlers in Retford, Notts.
But I agree, you use what the the pony is happy in! as long as steering and brakes are good.

Hi,
I am in the process of getting my pony ready for driving. She is doing brilliantly long reining in her harness and dragging her tyre (and various other noisy objects here there and everywhere!) I currently have her in a french link which she is very comfortable in and she is very soft mouthed. We have no problem turning and the brakes are super effective. She is not happy in a snaffle mouth (her mouth is tiny and and she doesn't like the nut cracker action) nor in a straight bar. I am new to driving and wondered if anyone can offer some helpful advice? I have been advised she must be in a driving bit for safety, is this correct? If so, help!!! Which one!?!
Thanks.
